Research rationale
I have been assigned to produce a music magazine with a target audience of 14-18 which has to include a front cover and double page spread. As I am currently in secondary school, I have a lot of access for teenagers in this particular age range. For my qualitative research, I am going to hold a focus group which will include around 4 people who I will ask various questions about magazine preferences which will support my magazine choices as I will be more aware with the likes and dislikes of my audience and my magazine would not be biased. I will be doing 2 of these ; one with a younger audience such as 14- 15 and one group with maybe 17-18 year olds. I'm glad that we have been told to use older teenagers for my research as I will be able to understand the style they prefer as I am almost 16. The targeted age group are more mature and aware of their fashionable choices by now so I can seek further information to guide my research and my final magazine.
I am also creating my own survey which I will ask people to send around so I can get a wider base of opinions other than my own school. This will include me asking the preferences for many things of the surveyor and their age so I can narrow down what age group finds interest in what genre and style.

For my market research I’ll start by looking at magazines that include styles that match my target audience and also magazines that I like the layout of as this will give me some ideas for my magazine house style and my layout.For my audience research, I will be printing off pictures of magazine covers and contents pages so I can ask people from my focus group which one they prefer and why. This will also help me build a better understanding of the different types of choices people have in fashion and their reasons.
For my resources, I am going to be using a camera so I can record my interview with the focus group and I will need access to the internet so I can conduct my research for the focus group and a variety of age groups.
